Get Involved

INBD is a community run event created by volunteers with a dream of celebrating the non-binary community. No two years are the same as organisers, volunteers and folk offering their talents shift and change.

If you want to be a part of this, find out how here!

Want to volunteer on the day?
We have plenty of opportunities to help out at whatever your capacity, and welcome non-binary supporters/allies in these roles.

Be a Buddy!

Buddies are heaps important!

Lonely, anxious, or lost? Want to meet new pals? Need to talk?
Is someone being disruptive? Are you or a pal in distress? Need someone to take out the trash?
Find a buddy!

Buddies aren’t expected to provide professional or medical support, and if you don’t know how to help, you can find someone who can (organisers or other buddies).

Get your yellow buddy badge at the door, and put it on/take it off throughout the event as much as you want/can (Try and return it before you head off if you can!).

Set up & Pack down

We show up in the morning (usually from 10am) daunted and anxious to a bare field and an undecorated space. Someone has to bring the marquees, someone else puts them up in groups of four. Someone else is setting up the drink/food stations and other folk are hanging up decorations. There’s activities to set up, a stage to prep, chill-out spaces to troubleshoot. At some point someone shows up with a ridiculous amount of samosas and we flop down thankful and fed. Then the guests arrive.

Later in the night, the stallholders have packed away their gear, the stage is pumping with the final shows, but marquees need to get put away, someone needs to take them back to where they were borrowed from. Decorations need to be packed down, food/drink stations need to be unmade and cleaned. The venue is so precious, but in shambles and needs some TLC before we can close the doors. Rubbish needs to be removed from site and my gosh the organisers are tired. Folk are gently folded up into their preferred methods of transport and sent home for a good nights rest and recovery.

Floaters

When theres something strange in the neighbourhood, who you gonna call?

The event is on, the buddies are buddying, the organisers are keeping the cogs moving, but we are somehow out of toilet paper or cups! There’s a new volunteer wanting to join the crew, a buddy is unsure about how to handle a situation, a performer/facilitator is needing a hand. Floaters are vital to the event! You don’t have one set task to do, but you’re around and willing to jump into action if needed. Mostly means helping organisers so they don’t have to stop what they’re doing/ can take a break. A great role for folk who enjoy problem solving and running with a vague prompt.

The Door

Welcome guests, answer questions, give out door prize raffle, sell merch/raffle tickets. You’re the face of INBD in this moment! Thank you!

Scheduled Performances
Sign up here: *insert form*

We have scheduled performance slots for performers who would like advertising, have specific set up requirements and time of day preferences.

We ask that performers are non-binary (or are part of the non-binary community), and that there is at least one non-binary person in group performances.

Performances should be under 7min long unless previously discussed with organisers.

Please be prepared to upload any advertising imagery you want associated with your performance, and if possible- please upload any song titles/lyrics/text in advance for captioning purposes.

We split any additional funds (after covering unexpected costs for this year and expected costs for next years event) between performers.

    Open Mic!

Feel the urge to jump up and share in the moment? Don’t want to fill out a form, submit any pics, or do much planning?

Open mic is for you! Poetry, passionate speeches, comedy, interactive gigs. After any scheduled performance slots open mic opens up, write your name on the open mic board and we will call you up in order!

We ask that people speaking at open mic are non-binary (or part of the non-binary community).

Please share any content warnings before you begin your set, and keep in mind the time you choose to get up, this is an all ages event until shows after 8pm.

Got stuff you don’t want that non-binary folk do want?

    Have a market stall

There is no fee to have a stall.

We encourage stallholders who have not had many opportunities to sell their wears, creatives, and new stallholders.

Don’t know what you’re doing? Same. Lets figure it out together.

We ask that stallholders are non-binary (or part of the non-binary community) and that at least one person is non-binary if you’re part of a group.

Please be prepared to upload any advertising imagery you want associated with your stall when you sign up.

Please try and arrive earlier in the day to help with set-up where you can. Many hands make light work and we want to be able to accommodate folks access needs.

    Just show up

Don’t need advertising, happy to bring a picnic blanket and a suitcase and sort yourself out?
You can just show up on the day and do your thing.

We ask that folk selling stuff in the market space are non-binary (or part of the non-binary community).
Please keep in mind that space can be limited and indoor stall options are not available. But this is your event as much as it is ours. Don’t do any damage to property, be kind, sell/trade stuff, we’re chill.

Want to share a skill, learn a thing or have a discussion?

    Register an activity/workshop

We have scheduled workshop slots for folk who would like advertising, have specific set up requirements and time of day preferences.
We ask that facilitators are non-binary (or are part of the non-binary community), and that there is at least one non-binary person in group facilitation.

Please be prepared to upload any advertising imagery you want associated with your workshop/activity.

    Just do a thing

Unsure if you’ll have capacity til the day?
    Don’t want to register?
Find a spot on the workshop/activities board and slot yourself in!

We ask that facilitators are non-binary (or part of the non-binary community).
Please keep in mind that space can be limited or might not available during your preferred time. But this is your event as much as it is ours. Don’t do any damage to property, be kind, discuss or teach something, we’re chill.

Want to help shape the future of INBD, have some cool ideas or an interest in grass roots community organising with a bunch of chaotic, disabled queers? So much work happens before the annual event and we love to share.
