All the information:
- We would like to celebrate the understanding that non binary people come in all shapes, sizes, abilities and skin-husks, with diverse backgrounds and experiences, and we want to love and celebrate all of us, and encourage the less visible non-binary folk to feel welcome. You are seen and valued.
- This event centers the celebration of non-binary people by non-binary people. Bring along your best-behaved supporter pals! But please understand attendance is in support of non-binary identity, experience and joy. Any folk invalidating non-binary existences will be excluding themselves; this is a celebratory space, a home for non-binary folk.
- Supporters and allies of the non-binary community are very welcome and encouraged guests in this home.
Food & Drinks
- This event will not be providing alcoholic beverages.
- There will be a Mocktail Station featuring various themed drinks!
- Donations to support costs are always appreciated, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
- Our venue is in the heart of South Brisbane, so food options are very close.
- You are welcome to order food delivery to the venue.
- There will be a Picnic Potluck featuring contributions by attendees and organisers.
- If you would like to bring any food to contribute to the picnic, please drop them off at the stall on arrival and label ingredients.
General
- This is an all ages, family friendly event until the final show which will be 18+.
- Smoking areas will be positioned well away from entrances.
- Free entry for all people outside the binary. Welcome home
- We encourage supporters/allies to donate to support the event – all donations go toward costs of running the event into the future. No one will be turned away for lack of funds!
- We’ll have performances going throughout the day and night with plenty of time in between for dancing, playing games, sharing, crafting, connecting, and more!
- We will have a signed quieter space in the market away from other stalls and music during the event but will run a full quiet hour from 2-3pm right when the doors open for market browsing without live music or performances. And will aim to have quiet periods throughout the event between performances.
Accessibility
- This space seeks to be as INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE as possible and we value your feedback from previous years so we’ll have:
- a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces with varying levels of sound
- content warnings for performances
- a low sensory chill out space with dim lighting, and fidgets.
- The Blåhaj Pit, an outdoor chill out space for the more social and spontaneous folk.
- Masks will be available for those who wish to wear them in busy and indoor spaces. Majority of the event is held in outdoor spaces and hand sanitizer is provided at various locations.
- The toilets at Jagera Hall are gender neutral with 2 wheelchair accessible and 2 ambulant toilets, along with 1 shower.
- Limited on-site parking available for accessibility reasons- contact us if you require this.
- Jagera Hall is accessed via a paved and gravel driveway to the grassed front entry or ramp side entry beside the accessible parking space. The venue is wheelchair accessible, however be mindful that the surrounding areas may be affected by weather conditions.
Please take note:
- Remember to get consent for things like touching, photography and sharing possibly triggering content (if you’re not sure if you need consent, just ask!)
- Don’t use flash photography without checking in with everyone who may be exposed to the flash to protect our friends who may have seizures triggered by flashing lights
- Smokers and vapers please smoke in the designated smoking area, and everyone please refrain from wearing strong scents to keep our asthmatic and sensory sensitive friends safe
- Please consider your use of language in this space. This event aims to take into consideration a lot of beautifully varied groups and people. Following feedback from POC communities we ask that folk respectfully refrain from using the shortened NB for non-binary as it’s historically been used for non black people of colour. Other variations of non-binary language are totally welcome.
- Be mindful of the environment and take any intoxicants of choice responsibly. We will not be providing any alcohol at the event. It is advised that people indulging in intoxicants bring along a buddy so that any unexpected reactions or behaviours are not up to the facilitators to manage. (This is a great opportunity for supporters/allies to support a non-binary pal by volunteering to be a buddy)
